Rising Fears Once Again Send Asian Stocks in the Red

Asian stocks declined today to squander the gains for November as fears over further monetary tightening in China continued to suppress the risk appetite alongside the European debt crisis and the Korean tension.

The area’s performance gauge, the MSCI Asia Pacific Index slipped today 0.7% to 128.72 as of 14:05 Tokyo. Nonetheless, the decline across the markets today did not offset the gains recorded by exporters after upbeat reports from the US economy helped ease the jitters over the futures of the American consumer.

Nikkei 225 Index:

The index settled today lower by 188.95 points or by 1.87% to close at 9937.04, where only seven shares inclined and 213 slumped, while five remained unchanged. The index recorded its highest today at 10101.42 and the low of 9937.04.

Leading the decline today was Fast Retailing Co Ltd which slumped 3.07% to end at ¥13240. Following was Fanuc Ltd which settled at ¥11990 down by 1.88% and TDK Corp which fell 3.58% to settle at ¥5390.

As for the leading gainers today which helped offset some of the losses, the leading share was Credit Saison Co Ltd which inclined 0.61% to close at ¥1329, following was Hokuetsu Kishu Paper Co Ltd which settled at ¥443 higher by 1.37%; third was Denki Kagaku Kogyo which added 0.54% to end at ¥372.

S&P/ASX 200 Index:

The index settled today lower by 34.10 points or by 0.74% to close at 4584.40, where 57 shares inclined and 126 slumped, while 7 remained unchanged. The index recorded its highest today at 4617.40 and the low of 4584.30.

Shares that ended with the biggest losses today were led by Envestra Ltd which slumped 4.85% to close at A$0.49; following was Transpacific Industries Group which fell 4.68% to close at A$1.12 and Platinum Australia Ltd which also fell 4.55% to close at A$0.53.

As for the biggest gainers in terms of percentage gains, the lead was for Isoft Group Ltd which added 5.41% to close at A$0.08; following was Charter Hall Group which surged 5.00% to close at .52 and Macmahon Holdings Ltd which closed at A$0.54 higher by 4.85%. 

 

Hang Seng fell today by 0.68% or 158.23 points to close at 23007.99. From 45 companies, 12 rose today, while 32 fell, and 1 unchanged. Sectors leading the decline were the financials that lost 74.81 points and oil & gas that lost 33.55 points.
